Cautious but creative mindset when using GenAI- XI-Part2

By adopting a proactive approach to personal development and maintaining a healthy balance between GenAI-assisted tasks and independent cognitive engagement, we can mitigate the risk of degradation in our intelligence and analytical capabilities while harnessing the benefits of AI technology for enhanced productivity and innovation.

GenAI users try to achieve various tasks and applications, leveraging the capabilities of GenAI models to achieve specific goals and objectives. On the other hand, Tech firms that develop AI models works hard to introduce them in new areas in life. So both parties benefit from the introduction of GenAI in new areas and training it to excel the original areas. The business of the tech firms and its profit will grow and the GenAI users will rely more on a trust worthy assistant. The businesses relying on GenAI or encouraging its stuff to rely more on the GenAI models believe that better results will be achieved this way.

However, the real difference between the human product and the GenAI product is the speed of generating the output. The idea that any AI agent is impeccable is proven false by practice and by the declarations of all the AI models available so far. If you notice the bottom of the Google’s Gemini, you will find this statement: “Gemini may display inaccurate info, including about people, so double-check its responses.”.

Personally when spending sometime discussing with anyone of the AI models about maintenance, I would never give it 10/10for any of the answers. Some might say that problem is in the prompt. No, it is not. Because it generate errors in the elaboration of the scenarios it has already generated in the step before. Either it add some assumptions that violates the scenario or overlook parts of the context. So let’s start by how we shield ourselves from the adverse affects of using GenAI, then we shall continue our journey to the creative usage of GenAI.

How to create a cautious mindset when using Generative AI?

It’s essential for users to exercise caution and critical judgment when using generative AI, carefully reviewing and evaluating the generated outputs to ensure they meet the desired criteria and align with ethical standards. Additionally, implementing safeguards such as post-generation filtering, human review, and ethical guidelines can help mitigate the risk of undesirable outcomes from generative AI.

Also, we need to keep in mind that GenAI models are not impeccable. So don’t take their answers as bulletproof ones. Don’t worship those models. They are here to serve. We creatively create content and the AI models build upon our creativity. They are faster in generating the output but in case you don’t have an urgent quick need, you are generating an answer that really represents you.

Safeguards for Generative AI users

To mitigate these concerns and maintain or even improve one’s intelligence and analytical capabilities, individuals can take several proactive steps:

  1. Balanced Use of AI: Use AI as a tool to augment, rather than replace, human intelligence. Balance AI-assisted tasks with opportunities for independent thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  2. Continuous Learning: Engage in lifelong learning activities to expand knowledge, develop new skills, and stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies, including AI.
  3. Critical Thinking: Cultivate critical thinking skills by questioning assumptions, evaluating evidence, and analyzing complex issues from multiple perspectives. Practice discernment when interpreting AI-generated outputs and consider their limitations and potential biases.
  4. Creativity and Innovation: Foster creativity and innovation through activities such as brainstorming, experimentation, and exploration of new ideas. Use AI as a tool to inspire and enhance creative endeavors, rather than stifling creativity through overreliance on pre-generated solutions.
  5. Problem-Solving Exercises: Engage in problem-solving exercises and challenges that require active engagement of cognitive skills, such as logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and strategic planning. Seek out opportunities to tackle real-world problems independently or collaboratively with others.
  6. Human Connection and Collaboration: Emphasize the importance of human connection and collaboration in problem-solving and decision-making processes. Work collaboratively with others to leverage diverse perspectives, expertise, and experiences in addressing complex challenges.
  7. Reflection and Feedback: Reflect on past experiences and outcomes, both successes and failures, to gain insights and learnings that can inform future decisions and actions. Seek feedback from peers, mentors, or experts to gain different perspectives and identify areas for improvement.

Where we can use GenAI Creatively? And what to watch out for?

There’s potential for novelty in GenAI art and music but, it’s important to consider the limitations. The most interesting results often come from collaboration between humans and AI, where humans provide the creative spark and AI helps with exploration and execution. As we said before, the speed of the execution is in favor of the AI models. However, the initiation and the verification of the results accuracy is still is the hands of the human creators. We can find the intervention of the GenAI in:

Artistic Expression:

We can explore this in AI-generated artwork, sculptures, or digital installations. The cover image of this post has its central part generated via AI assistant after several tuning to the prompt and corrections till it managed to represent a mind shielding the humans while they _the humans_ are stretching it to grow and flourish.

Imagine feeding GenAI vast amounts of data on different artistic movements, like Impressionism, Surrealism, or Pop Art. It could then generate entirely new works that blend these styles in unexpected ways. Those who study arts as a profession or a hobby simply do the same. However the speed and processing power of GenAI could be used to create artwork that reacts to the viewer’s presence or emotions. For example, a painting’s colors could shift based on the viewer’s mood detected through facial recognition. Not only that, GenAI could personalize artwork based on a user’s preferences -As I did in the cover image of this post-. Imagine a portrait that reflects your personality or interests.

For creating sculptures, could design complex and organic sculptures based on mathematical algorithms or natural forms. That’s exactly how human professional artists do. Both, Ai and Humans, can use 3D printing for their designs in a way that would allow for the creation of intricate and unique sculptures. Teaching the GenAI more about the properties of different materials and its artistic vision allow it to design sculptures that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also structurally sound and manufacturable. The real power of GenAI may appear in the interactive Sculptures. Similar to artwork, sculptures could be designed to react to their environment or the viewer’s interaction. A sculpture could move or change its form based on touch or proximity.
